I read Beautifully Awake back in 2013 and I loved it so I don't know why I waited so long to read Beautifully Done and finish this duet. For some reason, Beautifully Done didn't resonate with me as deeply as its predecessor but I enjoyed Asher's story all the same.Asher grew up with Chase and they're best friends so I'd met him in Beautifully Awake and was eager for his story. Asher's life has been traumatic in many ways - mostly medically - so it's no wonder he lives every day as if it could be his last. Honestly, I rather like his philosophy on life with the exception of his refraining from forming intimate relationships. Asher is a successful attorney, is close with Chase and Lily (who I delighted in getting to spend time with) as well as his family. I appreciated the close-knit relationships he has with his parents and three older sisters and their families. He's a good guy - caring, loyal...loveable.
Talia was a part of the foursome that made up TACK - the band name she, Asher, Chase, and his twin sister Kimi performed under. They were inseparable until the accident that took Kimi from them and then Talia disappeared. Now, nineteen years later, she happens to bump into Asher in a bar in Boston. Talia, now a successful doctor, has a lot to answer for. The question was whether she'd give Asher the answers he was looking for.
So these two were close and maybe wanted more before Talia's disappearance. The estrangement has hurt them both but doesn't seem to have diminished their chemistry or their feelings. But Talia's keeping something from Asher. I didn't really feel that their connection was something that could have lasted nineteen years. I did feel their connection eventually though and the authors did well in illustrating Talia's feelings over the years. I guess it was Asher's feelings that I didn't seem to have been as strong but I got there with him. I enjoyed watching them reconnect, regret all they'd missed and build something deeper and more meaningful.
The incident used to create tension and hurdles for Talia and Asher - well, the main one since there were a few - kinda came out of left field for me. It accomplished its goal - the hurdles - but the circumstances were a little contrived. In the end though, I was completely invested in these two and was bawling my eyes out at the end. I think for that reason alone - that days later I was still emotionally affected - Beautifully Done gets bumped up from 3.5 to 4 stars.
This writing duo touched on tough topics such as Alzheimer's, cancer, spinal cord injuries, infertility - highlighting their background in the medical field. These elements helped give depth to the story and its characters. I'm glad I finally read this and I'd read this duo again.

Beautifully Done Beautifully Awake Volume 2 Riley Mackenzie Lori Sabin 9781500184919 Books Reviews
Riley Mackenzie is my newest 1-click obsession. It's probably safe to say you haven't read Chase and Lili's story Beautifully Awake. You would've already 1-clicked Beautifully Done instead of reading the reviews. Yes. It is THAT good. That being said, read Beautifully Awake first. Not only are you introduced to Asher, Talia, and a host of other amazing characters, you'll spoil the emotional journey of Beautifully Awake if you read them out of order. The emotional roller-coaster of this series is well worth the ride. Beautifully Done puts the spotlight on Asher and Talia. Their story is friendship, family, loyalty, selflessness, adventure, love, and finding "you". It's been a very long time since I've become immersed in a book, but these are so incredibly written that the characters really come to life. The connections to first Lili/Chase and then Asher/Talia were immediate and complete. You feel their bonds, the joy in their celebrations, and love for those they care about most. But life is messy, as are the best stories. It isn't always an easy journey to overcome the obstacles and stay true to your path. Beautifully Done is about the journey, not the destination.
What could have been, what is, and what will come... 5+ STARS!!!!
I already loved Asher from Beautifully Awake so I'm happy that he got his own story because I did want to learn more about him and boy, does Asher have a lot to share. He is lovable in the sense that he cares so much about the people who are dear to him, he will do anything for them with no limit. He just doesn't do committed relationships and lives life in the fast lane and for the moment because life is too short to do it any other way. That didn't make much sense in the first book but once the reasons for Asher's motto are revealed, it sinks in why he is the way he is. Asher isn't a broken guy by any means, he just takes the bull by the horns and goes with it. Because Asher isn't broken, he has the capacity to give so much of himself and it's sad to think that he doesn't want to give his heart away, that is, until he crosses paths with an old friend from the past, someone from before all the bad things happened in life. Talia, someone that was briefly mentioned before in the first book, but was an important part of the past of both Asher and Chase, reappears. Talia's got secrets, that much was implied, but her secrets run much deeper and complicated than anyone would have guessed. I think my eyes bugged out a little when her whole story spilled out and it was crushing. Talia is different from Lili in that she is older and more mature and because of her difficulties in life along with her responsibilities, she never let life bring her down too far where she couldn't climb back up. Talia is incredibly resilient and intelligent, but also very practical and looks at situations from a whole-picture perspective because her decisions don't only impact her. I loved the rekindling of the friendship between Asher and Talia because there was a side of them revealed that hadn't been seen before in any of Asher's other relationships, even with his family and Chase. In all truthfulness, I actually love Chase more than Asher, but Asher is a really stand up guy in so many ways. Talia herself is a pillar of strength to be admired. There's some major events that happen in this book, the kind that are life changing, so that by the time I got to the Epilogue, I went into it warily remembering exactly what happened in the Epilogue from Beautifully Awake and crossed my fingers that it wouldn't be nearly as dramatic and suspenseful. Well, there is a surprise tucked away in there that hits the heart, but there's also some beautiful lessons to take home, too.
