This story is about Lady Pamela who schemes to go undercover to retrieve a document to save her family from scandal. Hijinks with a "coachman" named Carlin and full cast of characters ensue. I loved this Clare Darcy novel. I think it is one of my favorites. The interactions between Lady Pamela and Carlin were my favorite parts and there were a lot of them. I felt the romance was high in this novel. (PG rated romance.)

Highly recommended for fans of Georgette Heyer.

I purchased this book for $1.98 (plus or minus a penny?) and paid the usual $3.99 for shipping. When it arrived, it took just a few minutes for me to realize that this wasn't a book I wanted to read, that the high praise of other reviews didn't prepare me for what I found when I tried to read the story by opening the book in several places and checking the way it was written. This is my usual test. In general, if the writing isn't interesting in itself, I can't really enjoy the story even when others found the story to be quite good. I don't want or expect high literature but I don't enjoy he-said-she-said dialog and all short paragraphs. Fair or not, that was my impression. Sooooooo, I sent the book back, saying that I had made a terrible mistake. Usually I send books back only if they are in bad condition when I have ordered very good condition. In this case, the seller wasn't at fault and returned my $1.98 or so, but all of the shipping costs, $3.99 to buy and $3.17 to return, were lost! Stupid or not, this was a shocker. I will order MUCH more carefully in the future and give away any books that still disappoint. I don't know if this little story helps anyone else, but if there is just one person.....
I have only recently realized how many books Clare Darcy wrote. They are fun stories, with romance and adventure, and no inappropriate love scenes. Loved the book. Great service.
Ig you want good historical romance, go to Georgette Heyerdahl. This would be OK if you found yourself on vacation on a rainy day without anything else to read.
Lady Pamela is a light-hearted, witty Regency romp. Everything about it is delightful. The only thing I would warn some readers about with this particular novel is that the plot centers on an intrigue involving a missing government document, and the H/h's attempt to retrieve it. Hence, the author may have slighted the romantic element a trifle. It didn't bother me, and I found all of the characters very well drawn and totally delicious. Four and a half stars.
Truly in the style of Georgette Heyer, and well done! Clare Darcy is a champ at juggling characters and plots and her style is fabulous! What a gem! If you love Regency in this style grab this and don't let it go! This was my first exposure to this author, but it won't be my last! I can't wait to find another one!
